Florence, the Municipality rewards cyclists. The more you ride, the more you earn

The more you pedal, the more good you do for the environment, reducing pollution and traffic. And more earnings: up to 30 euros per month credited directly to your current account, with the possibility of also winning monthly prizes if you are among the top two hundred “virtuous cyclists” in the Florentine ranking of kilometers travelled.
«Cycle, Florence rewards you», is the name of the plan, complete with bike kit and dedicated app, launched by Palazzo Vecchio to promote green mobility in the city. “It’s a turning point for cycling mobility in the city and a project of which I am really proud because it introduces the idea that those who use the bike not only do themselves a favor – because they save money, time and are good for their health – but they do the city a favor everything and therefore he will be rewarded”, explains the municipal councilor for Green, Andrea George.
The initiative, financed with 1.2 million euros and starting next June 3rd on the occasion of World Bicycle Day, is one of the pilot projects of “Florence for the climate” aimed at improving air quality in the city in parallel to the TPL bonus, free season tickets for students and incentives for replacing the most polluting cars. «The path to making the city increasingly sustainable necessarily passes through the promotion of cycling», comments the councilor and candidate for mayor, Sara Funaro.

Limited number

The municipal initiative, aimed at residents and adult residents of Florence and its metropolitan area, will have a limited number of places in this first phase: it will be open to 2 thousand citizens, the first to register starting from May 13th. To participate, all you need is a bicycle (even pedal-assisted) and register with the app Pin Bike so you can collect the free device that takes into account the kilometers and routes you have set. Those who leave their car at home and switch to two wheels will be paid 20 cents per kilometer for home-work and home-school/university journeys and 5 cents on general routes in the city (Monday to Friday only) up to a maximum of 2 euros per day. For those who already use the bike, the costs will be 15 cents on the indicated routes and 5 for extra trips, with the daily limit set at 1.20 euros. In both cases the maximum monthly amount cannot exceed 30 euros.
A Florentine who travels 5 kilometers every day for 20 days will therefore be able to collect 20 euros per month, while those who cycle twice as much will stop at the set ceiling. In addition to this, Palazzo Vecchio also provides a monthly rewards system: every 30 days there will be a ranking on the app of the top 200 cyclists by distances traveled and participation in events. Two prizes up for grabs 100 euros8 of 50 euros, 40 of 30 euros and 150 of 20 euros, cumulative up to a maximum of 200 euros.
