Emergency healthcare personnel in the ASL Viterbo: critical situation and urgent appeals
Shortage of doctors, nurses and social health workers
VITERBO – The situation of shortage of operators in the Viterbo ASL has reached alarming levels, there is a lack of doctors, psychologists, biologists, nurses, social health workers, radiology and laboratory technicians, rehabilitation therapists, ambulance drivers and many administrative staff.
We do not yet have an indication of certain times for the definitive stabilization of approximately 100 nurses, 40 social health workers, 13 laboratory technicians and other professional figures, who have been waiting for years for the permanent contract.
A ranking of over 300 nurses has been approved, which we hope will be used as soon as possible, before the summer holidays and in an adequate manner, to replace staff on maternity leave, illnesses, accidents, etc., while a ranking has not yet been started similar public notice, despite having been requested several times by this Fials, to prepare a ranking for social and health workers, a figure that is both precious and extremely lacking.
To understand the extent of the problem it is sufficient to observe what happens within the hospital inpatient operating units and in the emergency room, to see that to provide adequate assistance to patients, which is not just healthcare, it would be necessary to take at least 150 new social and health workers in the Viterbo ASL.
It should also be considered that in particular, many social and health workers currently in service, who have an average age of around 45 years, in addition to being numerically insufficient, are burdened by disabling pathologies (prescriptions) which determine a significant reduction in working capacity, This is a situation which deserves further investigation in terms of occupational risk.
At this point, we ask ourselves if the Company has adopted an operational program classifying in detail the priority interventions to be guaranteed, to deal with the current serious emergency situation which is effectively undermining every hospital and territorial activity.
While we await a decisive, urgent and timely intervention by the SS.LL., for the hiring by any means, of the personnel necessary to face the serious crisis, we express our full concern for the precariousness of the psychophysical conditions in faced by numerous healthcare workers, now totally exhausted by painful and unacceptable working conditions, even on an economic level, for which this OS reserves every useful protection initiative, in the forms and ways it deems most appropriate.
