Not just rock: Teramo crossroads of legends – Shows

TERAMO. While waiting for the theater-song of Rocco Papaleo and his companion from Teramo Arturo Valiante on the piano, protagonists on Sunday in Teramo of “Divertissment” (sic!), a show written by Papaleo with Valter Lupo (university lecture hall, 5.30 pm), which will close the winter edition, the Music by Eder association announces the summer edition of Let’s Get Lost – Stories of men and jazz, three dates in Piazza Sant’Anna. Between 7, 9 and 10 August guests will be Soft Machine, David Cross, Kenny Garrett, Kruder & Dorfmeister, «names who have written the history of international music in progressive, jazz, electronic, and from whose concert route normally a city in the centre-south like Teramo is cut off”, said Emiliano “Eder” Di Serafino, creator and organizer of Let’s Get Lost, an event which takes its name from a famous piece by Chet Baker and like that invites you to get lost. In good music.
Presentation yesterday in the Municipality, together with the representatives of the supporting bodies: the mayor Gianguido D’Alberto and the councilor for culture Antonio Filipponi, the vice president of the Province with responsibility for culture Andrea Core, the director of the Chamber of Commerce Salvatore Florimbi, the president of the Bim Marco Di Nicola Consortium. Eder gave special thanks to the designer Carmine Di Giandomenico, an international pencil from Teramo who donated the image of Let’s Get Lost Summer 2024. In the triptych of August dates, the opening evening of Wednesday 7th will see a double concert. First to take the stage were Soft Machine, an English band formed in 1966 in Canterbury, one of the pioneer bands of progressive rock, creators together with Pink Floyd and Tomorrow of the first wave of experimentation and psychedelia in London. Then over the years their musical style evolved and since the early Seventies it has been based on fusion. Naturally the lineup, which included big names in British jazz, has changed several times, but the commitment of those who play in Soft Machine today has remained constant. This is the current line up: John Etheridge guitar, Theo Travis flute, sax, piano, Fred Baker bass, Asaf Sirkis drums.
The evening of the 7th will continue with David Cross, legendary English violinist of King Crimson from 1972 to 1974, recruited by leader Robert Fripp. Now with his band (John Mitchell guitar and vocals, Sheila Maloney keyboards, Mick Paul bass, Jeremy Stacey drums) Cross continues to tour the world celebrating the Crimson trilogy albums released in that period, “Larks’ Tongues in Aspic”, “Starless and the Bible Retro”, “Red”. On Friday 9th the great saxophonist, keyboardist and author Kenny Garrett will play as a sextet in the concert “Sounds From The Ancestors”, named after the 2021 album, with Keith Brown piano, Jeremiah Edwards double bass, Ronald Bruner drums, Rudy Bird percussion, Melvis Santa voice. First signed with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Garrett then joined Chick Corea and John McLaughlin’s supergroup “Five Peace Band”; In his 36-year career he has had over 200 collaborations as a sideman with many musical stars, as well as more than 20 records as a band leader. Electronic music that will make the square dance for the conclusion, Saturday 10 August, with the DJ set of the Austrians Kruder & Dorfmeister for the 30 years anniversary tour. The duo K&D (producers Peter Kruder, born in 1967, and Richard Dorfmeister, born in 1968), was born in the early nineties and is known for downtempo, lounge, hip-hop, drum and bass remixes. Since their debut they have followed the tradition of the 80s dancefloor.
