Here is today’s program. The Amissi del Piovego will carry out a mini-rowing tour from 10am Golena-Portello and back; the appointment is at Golena San Massimo. In turn, the Walls Committee will propose guided tours of the floodplain bastion system, while an “aperitif” organized by the Piovego Cooperative is scheduled for 11am.

A slow but pleasant ride is expected in the afternoon navigation del Piovego, organized by Delta Tour with departures at 3pm and 4.45pm; tourist guide provided by the Mura Committee on board. The Rowing Club headquarters will come alive with a small tour along the Bacchiglione and a short lesson on the first principles of rowing. Two shifts are scheduled at 10am and 3pm. Rari Nantes will instead organize a mini-tour on rowing boats: two routes, the first from the historic site to the Specola, the second from Bassanello to Voltabarozzo (two shifts are scheduled, at 10am and at 15).

However, the actual Water Marathon will take place tomorrow – 5 May – on the Bacchiglione (start in front of the headquarters of the Rowers), but above all on theriver ring around the city, a route of about 20 km, interrupted by two transfers. The competitive part, with athletes from all over Europe (and beyond) will start at 9am; following this, for each race category, all the other starts will be given with a gap of a few minutes from each other. The 10 km SUP (Stand Up Paddle) race is different and will start at 11.30. The total prize money has been increased to one thousand euros and the awards are scheduled for around 1pm.

THE KEY MOMENT
The centerpiece of the event is the amateur Water Marathon where around 800 participants are expected to row with various means: canoe, kayak, “SUP” and surfski to admire Padua from an absolutely extraordinary perspective. In this picturesque and historical context, enthusiasts will take on an exciting challenge through the waterways that surround the historic center. The atmosphere will be magical, immersed in the history of the city, and the route becomes an extraordinary experience that mixes sport, nature and culture in a unique way; the spectacular mass departure will be at 10am. There will be two transfers along the route, both manned and equipped with refreshment points. The first is found after 5 km with the characteristic crossing of the Sant’Agostino bridge close to the Specola astronomical observatory; the second is located at km 14 to overcome the Voltabarozzo locks. Then, along the Moscatore canal you will return to the Bacchiglione and finally to the starting point; the Canottieri kitchens will guarantee all participants the opportunity to refresh themselves until 4.30 pm.
This fifth edition of the Padova Water Marathon promises to be the most attended; his notoriety is in fact increasing year after year. It is already included in the international ICF calendar and is popular with both athletes and amateurs. Padua is a beautiful city, but it seems that from the water it is even more beautiful. Seeing is believing.
