TERAMO. From today more pedestrian areas in the centre. The mayor of Teramo Gianguido D’Alberto signed the ordinance which imposes a stop to transit and parking in various streets in the heart of the city. The measure, tested in the Covid era and becoming structural in the summer period, aims to encourage walking and administration and refreshment activities which will be able to place tables outdoors taking advantage of more space without the disturbance of passing cars.
The ordinance of the so-called “Ways of Taste” comes into force today and will continue until October 31st. The measure has an hourly nature: that is to say that pedestrian traffic starts in the afternoon and stops late at night. A way to avoid having a negative impact on commercial activities and at the same time guarantee the usability of the streets in the periods ranging from aperitif to after-dinner. This is also with a view to the appointments and events that will enliven the center in the summer. Starting today, from 6 pm to 3 am, Corso De Michetti will be closed to traffic in the stretch between Porta Reale and Via Largo Melatini, with the establishment of a ban on Corso De Michetti for vehicles coming from Via Domenico Cirillo and with the only possibility of exit, for parked vehicles, continuing on via dei Tribunali. From Thursday to Saturday, from 6pm to 3am, traffic stops in via Vincenzo Comi, from the intersection with via Carlo Forti to piazza Martiri della Libertà (with an obligatory turn, for vehicles coming from via Carducci, on the right onto via Forti , and subsequently on via Giacomo Paladini) and a simultaneous change in the direction of travel on via Forti (from the intersection with via Gabriele D’Annunzio to the intersection with via Giacomo Paladini, in the direction of via Paladini).
Same ban, for days and time slots, in via del Mercato, from via della Verdura to piazza Martiri Pennesi.
This year Via Vittorio Veneto also returns to pedestrian traffic, after the presence of an important construction site prevented it from being closed to traffic last summer. Here from Thursday to Saturday, from 7.30pm to 3am, the pedestrian area is open.
The same thing will happen in via D’Annunzio, from the intersection with via Forti; in via Paladini (in the stretch between via Vittorio Veneto and via Forti) and in via Roberto Campana, from via D’Annunzio to piazza Cellini. «We proceed on that path that we have called Vie del gusto because it is valid and the people of Teramo like it», explains the traffic and commerce councilor Antonio Filipponi“we have also extended the pedestrianization period to October 31st and the measure is in line with the exemption that the Government launched on the installation of dehors resulting from the Covid period”.
