Senigallia celebrates its patron saint San Paolino da Nola on Saturday 4 May. A day of celebration for the city but also for the entire diocese.

In addition to the Eucharistic celebrations of the various parishes, at 6.00 pm the solemn Eucharistic celebration is added, in the Church of the Gates, presided over by the diocesan Bishop, Franco Manenti, concelebrated by the priests of the city. A short procession will then follow to Piazza Roma with the entrustment of the city and the diocese to San Paolino. Music by the Città di Senigallia musical band. On the same afternoon as the party, exhibition and creative workshops in Piazza Garibaldi, from 4pm to 6pm, for children from 1 to 7 years old, organized by the “San Vincenzo Paritario Education Centre”.

Paulinus of Nola, or Pontius Anicius Meropius Paulinus was born in Bordeaux, France, in 355 AD and died in Nola on 22 June 431 AD. Originally from Aquitaine, he was venerated by the Church as a Saint. He was bishop of Nola in the 5th century and is also considered the patron saint of bell ringers “ad orbis”, since the invention of bells as objects used in the ecclesiastical context is attributed to him, by convention. San Paolino da Nola is the patron saint of various cities including Regensburg and, obviously, Nola.
