Is Vittoria about to launch a 29 road tire?

Vittoria is about to throw one 29mm road tire?
Browsing among the Pro’ bikes on the eve of the Giro d’Italia, in fact, our eye fell on the Vittoria Corsa Pro used by the Visma | team Lease a Bike. The novelty, clearly, does not lie in the model, which has been on the market for some time, but in the section.

For now, in fact, the available sizes are the 700x 24-26-28-30-32, but given that the solutions adopted by the Pros usually soon become available to everyone, we expect that Vittoria will soon also market this new 700x 29.

Why the size 700×29?

Why the need for a 29 mm tyre, a size that is currently not very common in road cycling?
Let’s imagine that the motivation lies in the new ISO and ETRTO standards, which indicate the 700×29 section as the minimum one to be mounted on wheels with a 25 mm internal channel (like some Reserve models used by the Visma team), regardless of whether they are hookless or with a retention tooth. We talked about it HERE.

Many wheel manufacturers have already confirmed compatibility with 700×28 tyres, alternatively 700×30 can be fitted, but with this option Vittoria would cut the corner and offer a further option to professionals and enthusiasts.

At the moment we have no other details, but we expect prices and specifications to remain unchanged compared to the other Corsa Pros. We don’t know if this section will also be offered on other models.

Speaking of news, the wheels on which you see the Vittoria Corsa Pro TLR 700×29 mounted are the Reserve 42|49, that is, this is also a model still in the prototype version, which we talked about during the Northern Classics and which will most likely replace the 40|44. Now we have seen them more closely and the impression is that in addition to having a higher profile, the shape of the rim is also more rounded.
The internal channel, as was easy to predict after everything we have said about the 700×29 tyres, is 25 mm on the front and 24 mm on the rear, therefore slightly narrower than the previous version.
