Limina Tunnel, road closed to traffic from 10pm to 6am

The scheduled maintenance work on the “Limina” tunnel has begun and from 10 pm today the road is closed to night traffic for eighteen months.


REGGIO CALABRIA – From 10 pm this evening, 3 May 2024, the Ionian coast and the Tyrrhenian coast are, at night, orphans of the “Jonio-terrenica” road. In fact, the scheduled maintenance work on the “Limina” tunnels started this morning and “Turpid” on the state road 682, the famous “Jonio-Tirrenica” which connects the two sides of the province of Reggio Calabria.

In detail, Ansa informs that, State road 682 will be closed to traffic exclusively at night from 10pm to 6am in both directions between the Limina and Mammola interchanges.
While, during daytime from 6:00 to 22:00, transit will be allowed along the entire road but with an alternating one-way system regulated by traffic lights at the “Torbido” tunnel.

DETAILS OF ALTERNATIVE ROUTES DURING THE CLOSURE

During the times in which the road is closed for works in the “Limina” tunnel, cars and vehicles up to 3.5 tons will be diverted onto the alternative road system, consisting of provincial road 5.
Those traveling in the Tirreno direction will have to exit at the Mammola junction and return to the Limina junction.
Conversely, for light vehicles heading towards Jonio the mandatory exit is at the Limina junction with return to the Mammola junction.

For heavy vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, however, other alternative routes are provided.
Vehicles coming from the north/Tyrrhenian area both from the motorway and secondary roads, and directed on the SS106 Grotteria Mammola, the recommended route includes the exit at the Lamezia Terme motorway junction with continuation on the state roads “SS280”, “SS106”, and “SS682” towards Mammola.
For vehicles, however, coming from the north/Ionian strip both from the SS106 and from the secondary roads, and heading to Cinquefrondi, the recommended route involves entering the former SP16 in the Bellino area with continuation on the SS106 Var state roads up to the SS280 dir – SS280 towards Lamezia Terme and onto the A2 motorway until the Rosarno-SS 682 junction towards Limina.
While, vehicles coming from the South, both from the motorway and from secondary roads, and headed on the SS106/Grotteria M, the recommended route includes the exit at the Lamezia Terme motorway junction with continuation on SS280-SS106-SS682 towards Mammola.
The overall expected duration of the works is 18 months.
