Stellantis is at the center of a media vortex after the stop was confirmed: here’s what’s happening at the Mirafiori plant. After much discussion, the group confirmed the decision that had already been announced.

We are living in a time where the global market is distinguished by peculiar characteristics that are constantly changing with the passage of time. Every time we hold one smartphonesfor example, we rarely realize the journey its components made before reaching us.

The industrial giants are, in fact, great assemblers that offer refined products, created to meet our needs, both in the technology and non-technology sectors automotive.

The start of 2024 marks the beginning of a period of significant changes and innovations that emerge on the market horizon. Fiat, together with other manufacturers, accelerates towards the future to try to preserve its competitiveness on a technological and economic level.

The strategy of the Turin brand includes a collaboration with some foreign factorieswhich have so far limited the plant’s capabilities Mirafiori. The new scenarios that are emerging could reverse the direction of these dynamics, even if the instability of the Italian labor market is reflected in the Fiat plant in Mirafiori, where three thousand employees are on redundancy pay.

A desirable return for Fiat 500

Fiat is evaluating the relaunch of the production of the 500 thermal in Italy to boost the local economy. Initially scheduled for Algeria and subsequently for Polandproduction could now return to Italy, in response to government requests revitalize the manufacturing sector of the country.

Up to now, the electric versions of the have been assembled at the Mirafiori plant Fiat 500 and of Maserati. However, current production was deemed insufficient, leading to the proposal to produce approximately 175,000 units of the Fiat 500 with combustion engine internal in Italy. Currently, it seems that Stellantis is informing suppliers of this new production direction.

The reality of the facts and the confirmation of Stellantis

For now, however, this remains a hypothetical scenario which does not yet have concrete evidence. On the contrary, the stop to the production of the electric Fiat 500 has been confirmed until at least Septemberwith 1,200 workers who will therefore be forced to resort to the solidarity contract.

Obviously this is a far from positive situation. For now, however, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares does not yet seem to have found a practical solution to solve this problem. We’ll see what the group decides for the future of productivity of the Italian Mirafiori plant.
