Silver Cross to the 21st ‘Trieste’ Regiment

Today is a special day for the Italian Army which today celebrated the 163rd anniversary of its constitution, with a ceremony at the Military Hippodrome in Rome where the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, spoke the undersecretary of Defense, Isabella Rauti, the Chief of Staff of the Army, Army Corps General Carmine Masiello and other civil, military and religious authorities.
There were moments of technical demonstrations, political reflections and also spaces for the delivery of honours, and in front of the Army War Flag and all the deployed units, the Silver Cross of Merit of the Army was awarded to 21st Land Artillery Regiment “Trieste” of Foggia, in the presence of its commander, the colonel Virginio Cameli.
This is the motivation for the recognition: “Following the example traced by generations of Artillerymen, working with silent and undying dedication, he has offered, over the years, innumerable contributions in all the foreign and national operational commitments of the Armed Forces, providing crystal clear proof of exemplary expertise. Aware of its role, the 21st Land Artillery Regiment has been employed in various foreign operational theaters, always guaranteeing an exceptional security framework for the population, local institutions and all international organizations present in the controlled territories, positioning itself as a shining example example of a cohesive and highly motivated unit. Furthermore, at a national level, during the Safe Roads operation in which it was employed, in the protection activities at fixed sites and sensitive objectives located in Calabria, the men and women of the Department offered exemplary proof of one’s loyalty to those principles of generosity and honor, typical of the Artillery, working with constant self-sacrifice, a very high sense of duty and an unconditional spirit of sacrifice. An admirable interpreter of the tasks entrusted to him, supported by unshakable faith in the Institution, he contributed to raising the prestige of the Army in the presence of the Nation”.
The regiment has been an honorary citizen of Lucera for two years for having also operated in the city during the Covid period, but the department was a protagonist in Italy, both in Capitanata and in other regions of the country also during the earthquakes recorded in L’Aquila and in Umbria, and abroad, such as Albania (May–November 2005), Bosnia (June 2007–March 2008), Kosovo (May 2008–November 2011).
