Salerno, the XXI edition of the National Bacchus and Minerva Competition presented

Organized by Ipsar Profagri of Salerno, the XXI edition of the Competition takes place from 8 to 10 May between Capaccio Paestum and Salerno Bacchus and Minerva, the most important moment of comparison between the wines and oils produced by technical and professional institutes for agriculture throughout Italy. The event, promoted in collaboration with the General Directorate for School Regulations, Evaluation and Internationalization of the National Education System, is held in the territory of the Province of Salerno by virtue of the prize awarded in last year’s edition to the IPSAR Profagri of Salerno. The school director Carmela Santarcangelo and the president of the Province of Salerno, Franco Alfieri, presented, in a press conference, the competition, structured in different sections, in which this year thirty schools, agricultural technical institutes specializing in Viticulture and Oenology, technical and agricultural institutes and professional institutes for agriculture and rural development which produce their own wine with around 100 labels, coming from almost all Italian regions, including Sardinia and Sicily, which will compete in three days of meetings, debates and guided tours. The conference “The wine and olive oil supply chain in Campania between tradition and innovation” at Next, at the former tobacco factory in Capaccio Paestum, opens the cycle of different moments of the rich and intense program, which from 8 to 10 May also includes seminars , conferences and guided visits to the Museum and Temples of Paestum, to the vineyard and olive grove of the Capaccio del Profagri headquarters, to the “Tenuta Vannulo” and “San Salvatore 1988” agricultural companies. “Wine and oil are our main brands and thanks to the quality of the wine produced by one of our schools we will have the opportunity to host hundreds of people from all over the region and show the former tobacco factory in a container that is the symbol of urban regeneration Next, also the excellence of our territory” declared the president of the province of Salerno, Franco Alfieri, during the conference. The actual competition is divided into four sections, as explained by principal Santarcangelo, focusing on the two new features: “To the first-placed school in the competition Bacchus and Minerva2024 will also be offered the opportunity to exhibit their wines at the edition of the In Vino Civitas event which will take place in Salerno, in the third week of October and during the competition a new creative writing format will be presented in collaboration with the Biennale delle Arts and the Mediterranean”. “The vine in the story of life …” is the name of the project that will be started by Andrea Iovino with the aim of creating a shared storytelling around the grandeur of the work behind a bottle of good wine. Each chapter will have a title wine (Barolo, Aglianico, Taurasi, etc.) and the incipit will be written by the mayor of a municipality in which there are vines relating to the wine of the chapter. As regards the sections of the Competition, there will be the prize “Bacchus and Minerva 2024”, a comparison between the wines produced by the Technical and Professional Institutes for agriculture, the Competition “EVO Oils Istituti Agrari 2024”, the challenge between the oils produced by the Technical and Professional Institutes for agriculture, the Competition “ Minerva Award”, aimed at encouraging and stimulating cultural reflection among students, in the form of an essay on the role of the vine and oil in the development of the environmental, economic and social context of a territory: and finally, the competition “Bacchus and Minerva. Commission Bacchus Giovani”, in which students from the Agricultural Institutes, specializing in viticulture and oenology, will work alongside the official evaluation commission of the wines in the competition: they will thus have the opportunity to put into practice the skills acquired in the knowledge of the organoleptic qualities and the wine evaluation. The awards ceremony will be held in the Profagri Aula Magna in the city of Salerno on May 10th at 10:00. The winning schools of the four sections will be rewarded by production companies of excellence in the relevant fields, from wine production to oil production to culture and craftsmanship.
