Rimini: new sea-side access to the station by the end of the year

Work continues on the extension of the central underpass of the station and the new access on the sea side. The Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (FS Italiane Group) construction site – as per the timetable – is proceeding relentlessly towards the delivery of the works, expected by the end of the year.

After the conclusion, which took place in recent months, of the intervention by a specialized company – to carry out the cutting, with diamond wire, of the wall dividing the existing underpass from the one under construction (extension of approximately 50 metres) – in recent days the structural part of the underpass has also been completed.

In fact, the reinforced concrete works, the new sea-side access and the new pedestrian ramp with access stairs have been completed.

From the second half of May the works will focus on the construction of the steel canopy covering the new entrance on the sea side. A particular intervention that a specialized company will take care of. At the same time, other functional interventions for the building and plant works inside the underpass are starting. Delivery to the city is expected by the end of 2024.

Viale Principe Amedeo underpass

The closure of the Viale Principe Amedeo underpass is scheduled for Monday 6 May (subject to the installation of appropriate signs), to allow work on the sea side which would interfere with pedestrian traffic, where various activities have already been started such as cutting vegetation, preparing the construction site areas, the clearance of war ordnance and the excavation for the preparation of the functional structures for the construction of the work.

For this intervention, a temporary reopening is planned – from June 1st until the end of the bathing season – with changes to ongoing activities such as to allow the passage of people.

As is known, this Italian Railway Network project includes wider and longer access ramps, to improve pedestrian and cycle accessibility, more greenery and the strengthening of the lighting system with latest generation devices. A redevelopment of the access system which has the main objective of breaking down architectural barriers in order to make the underpass accessible to cyclists and disabled people and resolve safety problems linked to the transit of pedestrians and bicycles in mixed spaces. In detail, the interventions involve the complete renovation of the access ramps to the underpass with the creation of continuous ramps upstream and towards the sea with a slope of between 5% and 8%. Also in this case the completion of the works is scheduled for the end of 2024.
