The new rates of port taxes and state taxes applied by the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea chaired by the resigning Zeno D’Agostino have come into force in these hours.
As regards the free points of Trieste, this is an increase of 140% for all goods, both port taxes and state taxes, with the exception of mineral oils, to which, having already been doubled in 2022, only a 20% increase in the current rate will be applied. The increase applied to all goods in the customs ports of Trieste and Monfalcone will also be 20% compared to the current tariffs.
In the decree adopting the new rates, the ADSP explained “that the economic-financial situation of the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea has highlighted, in recent years, due to current developments, a contraction in revenue of current portion in the face of an increase in current portion expenditure, also related to the well-known inflationary dynamics which have affected the cost of services to be rendered to port users and maintenance of the common areas in the relevant ports”.
And that “the rates currently envisaged for the free port of Trieste in relation to the remaining product categories appear to be lower than those applied in the rest of the national territory, with a consequent limitation of the spending capacity of the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea”.
Part of the increases, it is also stated, will serve to cover “the burdens borne by the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea Ports of Trieste and Monfalcone for the performance of supervisory tasks and for the provision of security services”.
In any case, despite “the increase, to the maximum extent, of the state tax (art. 8 DI 339/1989) and the port tax (art. 9 DI 339/1989)”, the Adsp wishes to underline that, for as regards the free points of Trieste, the particular regime that distinguishes them will allow “in any case to maintain a preferential rate compared to the amounts received at the other ports”.
