“The meeting will allow us to spend a pleasant day in the ancient city”

The Order of Architects of the province of Avellino has organized a visit to the archaeological park of Ercolano for its members on 10 May 2024 to learn more about the techniques and methods that have characterized the recent restorations. Participants will be welcomed by the director of the archaeological park Francesco Sirano and the president of the Irpinia architects Erminio Petecca. Angela Di Lillo, an official of the archaeological park, will speak at the study day. The visit will be guided by the architect Maria Anna Martignetti and the archaeologist Mariano Prodomo showing: the boat pavilion, the Marco Nonio Balbo terrace, the deer house, the swimming pool, the bicentenary house, the quadriform arch on the decumanus Maximus, the baths, the sacellum of the Augustals and the house with the wooden partition. “THEcloseup-construction site initiative“, explains councilor Giuseppe Nardiello, “to delve deeper and look closely at the restoration, maintenance and conservation work of the Herculaneum heritage with the officials and restorers of the Archaeological Park of Herculaneum“.

The architects from Irpinia met in ancient Herculaneum, at the suggestive archaeological site, a UNESCO world heritage site. The occasion represents an important training moment for our members who are passionate and active in the world of restoration and conservation of historical and archaeological heritage. The meeting will allow us to spend a pleasant day in the ancient city, investigating the new discoveries and testimonies of daily events, hardships and moments of pleasure that fueled life under Vesuvius before the devastating eruption of 79 AD”, President Erminio Petecca declares it.
