“Thanks to the union action of Uil Scuola, which has never lowered its guard on the issue, 785 school staff will be able to breathe a sigh of relief and look to the future with greater serenity”. This was stated by the general secretary of the Uil Scuola Puglia Gianni Verga, commenting on the circular from the Ministry of Education and Merit in which it is announced that the Council of Ministers has approved a decree-law, currently being published in the Official Gazette, which authorizes educational institutions to stipulate contracts until 15 June with school collaborators expiring on 15 April 2024.

“Better late than never – exclaims Verga – and thank goodness that in the end, even after a long union mobilization, the resources were allocated for the contractualization of school collaborators. However, there will remain a bitter taste in the mouth if the news that the contracts would start from May 2nd instead of April 16th is confirmed. The contractual gap in terms of salary and points must be filled.
As usual, we continue to save on education in a region with a high rate of school dropouts.
The ATA staff assigned to Apulian schools for the current and next school year is in fact absolutely insufficient to guarantee the provision of the service and the management of PNRR and Southern Agenda funds, with catastrophic consequences for hundreds of Apulian institutions”.

“We hope that this decision does not represent a mere isolated case, but that a principle passes that must be pivotal for the future of the Apulian and Italian school system: the school and its workers need stability. Only in this way will it be possible to plan a quality training offer for our young people and the conditions of necessary safety in which to carry out daily activities” concludes Verga.
