The day of the play-offs is approaching and, while waiting to know the name of the opponent with certainty, Latina Calcio 1932 continues preparing for the match from inside or outside. The one who shook the environment, after four consecutive knockouts, was the sporting director Matteo Patti who had the opportunity to analyze the season and the moment that the Nerazzurri are experiencing. «I don’t think the team needs to be motivated and prodded, it’s clear that in the last month of competitions we haven’t done well in terms of results, but an important event is approaching, one of those that prepare themselves. I follow the boys on a daily basis, I am at their side and I assure you that they are on track, they follow the coach, they work hard, aware that there is still a way to go. Defeats hurt, but in my opinion there was no lack of performance against Taranto either. As they say, whoever loses explains, but the team has always given everything and, as in the last match, they didn’t deserve to lose.”
BITTERNESS
The 7th will begin their journey in the promotion pool, but the problem is that Latina does not yet know the names of their rivals, which is no small problem for those who have to prepare for a match. However, Patti elegantly uses decisive tones. «I have an incredible fire inside, but I have to use the correct words to express my state of mind. I speak in a personal capacity, but I think I also interpret the state of mind of the club, I wonder how a penalty imposed months ago should still be judged, not knowing the decision regarding the Taranto issue still today puts us in great difficulty. An unquantifiable damage for the whole of Latina Calcio 1932, I think for example of the coach and the boys forced to prepare for a match not yet knowing who the opposing team is. Taranto and Casertana are two completely different teams, but even on a logistical level it is one thing to think about a trip to Puglia, another to think about a match to be played in Campania. Latina deserves respect, as do the Nerazzurri fans, who have always followed us away from home with enthusiasm and who today cannot organize themselves to follow their team. Clearly we also put our effort into finishing tenth, but if anyone thinks that Latina will be the sacrificial victim they are sadly mistaken.”
THE ANALYSIS
A team that will have to deploy all its best qualities to overturn the prediction. Whether it is Taranto or Casertana, Fontana’s team will still have to obtain an away victory in the 90 minutes to access the second play-off round.
GAME AND IMAGINATION
«The aspect that I liked most about our team is the desire to attack, to have fun, to be unpredictable, an attitude that allowed us to win important points. There are certainly aspects to improve on, I’m thinking for example of the number of goals conceded, too many, a factor that involves the whole group and not just the defensive department.” Coach Fontana is also working on this aspect, on which the sporting director expressed himself in these terms: «We reached the play off through the work carried out in the first part of the championship by Di Donato and then by the new coach. Having achieved qualification for the promotion pool is more a step of further growth than a goal.”
Now the focus is only on the match of 7 and when Patti is asked which opponent is best to face, she replies like this: «Taranto and Casertana are two strong teams, who played a high-level championship. We just hope to know the name as soon as possible so that we have at least a couple of days available to prepare for a very important race for us.”
