Emilia-Romagna is the second Italian region for growth in spending on durable goods in 2023: almost 7 billion euros (6 billion and 826 million), 10.6% more than in 2022. According to what was found by the Findomestic Observatory (BNP Group) in collaboration with Prometeia, this year marks its thirtieth edition , the increase in spending on durables in Emilia-Romagna is higher than that of the North-East (+10%), but also than the national one (+8.9). The strong recovery in business volumes destined for mobility was decisive, but also the increase in various provinces: above all Ravenna, the first Italian province for growth in spending on durables with a +15.4%. Followed by Bologna (+11.1%), Reggio Emilia (+10.6%) and Modena (+10.2%). “In 2023 we can observe a lively Emilia-Romagna market for durable goods with growth that derives mainly from the mobility segment”, he confirms Claudio Bardazzi, Manager of the Findomestic Observatory. “Specifically, there were increases in purchases of new cars equal to 20.3% (1 billion and 640 million in total expenditure) and in used cars at 23.8% (1 billion and 988 million), in both cases higher than to the average of the reference area than to the national average and with a gap of five points on the national average for used goods. Spending on motor vehicles is also increasing (+23.4%, 205 million)”. Emilia-Romagna then maintains its lead in furniture, where the growth of 2.5% (for a total expenditure of 1 billion and 570 million) is higher than the average Italian growth of 0.8%.

Spending per family

Also thanks to a per capita disposable income increased by 5.9% (slightly higher than the national average of 5.7%), Emilia-Romagna is the 4th Italian region for average family spending on durable goods (3,328 euros per nucleus). At a provincial level the region is rather heterogeneous, ranging from Modena which comes first among all 107 provinces (3,672 euros per household) and Rimini which with its 2,268 euros of expenditure per family ranks only 65th among the Italian provinces.

Rimini is the only province in the region with average family spending under 3 thousand euros

In 2023, the people of Rimini spent 406 million euros on durable goods (+7.8%) with an average expenditure per family of 2,668 euros per household, the most modest in the region as highlighted by the Findomestic Observatory. 96 million euros were spent on new cars (+16.8% compared to 82 million in ’22), while 95 million (+19.3%) were spent on used ones. Motorcycles are also growing although less incisively than the Italian average with 25 million spent (+19.3%). In household goods, the sector that drives consumption is furniture with 101 million euros spent (+0.7%, 665 euros on average per family), followed by large and small household appliances with 35 million spent (+ 2.9%, second in the region only to Bologna). In Rimini, less was spent compared to 2022, however, for information technology (13 million, -6.9%), for TV and Hi-Fi (8 million and -29.8%) and telephony: -3 .9% to 32 million which had been 34 the previous year.
