Munera: Music in healthcare settings

The Accademia Internazionale Incontri con il Maestro di Imola Foundation, in collaboration with the Municipality of Imola and the New Imola District, is carrying out a special project called Munera, Music in healthcare settings. From 2 to 5 May in Imola, in five residential homes for the elderly and disabled, the young talents of the university institution of musical excellence bring the gift of music, performing in concert for the guests of the facilities, for their families, and for all the operators who take care of the most fragile subjects on a daily basis, making their work a true human and social mission.

“The hope or, if we want, the “dream” that I entrust to you with these lines is that the imminent and complex phase of economic rebirth, as happened after the war, is accompanied by a new explosion of creativity, culture, art and beauty. We really feel the need for it.” These words spoken by President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella in 2020 they inspired the Fondazione Accademia Internazionale di Imola Incontri con il Maestro to create a project that would unite civil society, through art music, in places in great need of care and attention, in the name of creativity and beauty; the project finally comes to life today, in spring 2024.

In order to celebrate the identity of the person, in places of care, with the project Munera the very powerful language of art music is used, which embodies harmony, melody, rhythm, expression, imagination, expertise, synchrony, through the harmony of talented young people who have chosen art music as a profession and as a mission for one’s life. They are special young people, of refined sensitivity, dedicated to study and discipline, coming from Italy and abroad, who have found at the Imola Academy a path of great value and quality for their university musical studies. All the talents involved in the first edition of Munera responded enthusiastically to participating in the project, eager to play for such a special audience.

“Creativity, culture, art and beauty, quoting President Mattarella, constitute the backbone of our humanitas, they inhabit and enrich the rooms of the human spirit, without distinctions or constraints linked to the pure performance of the state of health of the body and mind. The idea that inspires the project Munera is to shift the specific weight of an aggressive and distracted common language, which diseducates listening and inclusion, towards a language that welcomes and ennobles human fragility – which unites each of us -, yearning for the beauty of life. Numerous composers who have animated the history of art music over the centuries have been fragile, lonely subjects, and often tormented by heavy illnesses, but capable of entrusting the language of musical art with the mission of elevating the human spirit and praising its beauty, its complexity, and also its contradictions,” declared the Superintendent of the Angela Maria Gidaro Academy.

Entrance to the concerts is open to guests’ families and in some structures also to citizens, as will be communicated directly by the individual structures.
