Towards the vote – Interview with the lawyer Matteo Giambartolomei: “My candidacy for a more solid and attractive Perugia”

Matteo Giambartolomei, lawyer and consultant, sole administrator of Umbraflor, deputy coordinator of the Safe Legitimate Defense project, has decided to try his hand at political commitment, running for city councilor with the Fratelli d’Italia list. And he could only be included in the series of interviews that our editorial team is carrying out with candidates united by the legal profession.

Why did you choose to apply?

“Because I believe it can contribute to making politics a serious, concrete, informed and productive thing.”

Why now?

“Because the seasons of life mark destiny and I believe the season has come where I am called to civil commitment to give my three children, the citizens, those who live in this area, a better Perugia”.

What can a lawyer do for the city?

“There are many lawyers, perhaps too many. A citizen who has studied to be a lawyer can do a lot, in my own small way, for example, I did it by managing a regional subsidiary, taking it from a very critical condition to having excellent performance today and concrete prospects for the coming years”.

How do you see Perugia?

“I see in Perugia a city undergoing rapid transformation with projects that will soon change its face, and always firmly a point of reference for the region and central Italy”.

How would you like it?

“I would like it to be more solid and even more attractive, with its citizens aware of the efforts made in these ten years to rescue it from decay, vigilant in respecting the commitments made and grateful for the results: a sort of democratic dream where everyone does their part outside from instrumentality and rhetoric. I consider myself a concrete man and it hurts me to see how the political debate on the left is full of lies and mystifications.”

First thing if I were elected?

“I’m running to be a city councilor, not a mayor, which is why I will first give my maximum support to Margherita Scoccia, but it will also be a support of ideas as well as support.”

An appeal to the undecided and to those who no longer vote?

“More than 10 years ago I approached politics, entering on tiptoe and giving everything I could. This allowed me to be able to see and distinguish between those who practice politics and those who use politics. To those who don’t vote, I say that it gives the latter a great pleasure because they are interested in not having too much ‘democratic control’, not having too many people who promptly ask for an account of failed promises or failed commitments. I accept the challenge and put my commitment, my history and that of my family into it.”
