At the feast of S. Irene presentation of the book “Altamura and its DOP Bread”

Talk-show in Claustro Loporcaro in Altamura on Saturday 4 May 2024, at 6.00 pm (behind the cathedral).

On the occasion of the feast of St. Irene, the book by the journalist and writer Giovanni Mercadante “Altamura e il suo Pane DOP”, published in 2015 and winner of two international literature competitions: Premio Città di Castello/2015 and Menottti International Art Festival of Spoleto (Umbria)/2019.

The debate, which will take place in the suggestive Claustro Loporcaro in the shape of a small amphitheater, thanks to the invitation of the artistic director of the event, arch. Pasquale Iacovone, will be moderated by the journalist Dr. Vito Giordano.

The author and the former president and founder of the Bread Consortium Giuseppe Barile will be present, creator of the DOP certification in 2003, whose specifications were developed together with the geologist prof. Michele Pellegrino.

The documentation was presented at the time to the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and approved by the European Community thanks to the interest of the Minister of Agriculture Gianni Alemanno and his local contact Carlo Moramarco.

The DOP/Protected Designation of Origin certification is a prestigious title that gives added value to Pane di Altamura together with the entire supply chain involved in the production of this excellent product which has crossed national borders.
