All medical centers in the Lazio region have resumed full activity. Specialist visits, physiotherapy and diagnostics had never stopped, while radiology and magnetic resonance imaging services were reactivated. For access to clinical laboratory analyses, all sampling points in the municipalities of Rome, Rieti, Monterotondo, Ciampino and Riano are back in operation.

Hacker attack

The blocking of activities was caused by a cybercriminal attack which occurred in the early morning of April 18th against the IT and telephone systems of Synlab, a leading company in Italy in diagnostic services and laboratory tests. The company responded to the attack by establishing a task force, made up of internal and external professionals, who worked hard to safely restore its systems, in collaboration with the relevant authorities.

The blockade also affected the province of Viterbo, where for several days hundreds of patients, those who turned to private individuals to speed up blood tests and diagnoses, remained waiting for reports. It is difficult to quantify the number of patients affected by the outage, which certainly affected several clinics connected to SynLab Lazio for some analyses.
