Mario Berettadouble ex of the match between Lecce and Cagliari, speaks to TuttoCagliari.net of next weekend’s survival challenge: “Lecce is very close to staying in Serie A, but mathematical certainty is still missing. I’m one hundred percent sure that on Sunday he won’t concede anything at all, firstly because he has to be completely safe and secondly because everyone always plays their own game to the end. Plus the Salento team are a solid team and play well. It will therefore not be an easy challenge for Cagliari, but when they take the field with the support of their friendly fans they always have an edge. Of course, Genoa’s performance was bad, but that’s okay after a triptych of very positive matches like those against Atalanta, Inter and Juventus. Three matches that brought perhaps even unexpected points, very useful for building salvation brick by brick.”
In your opinion, what could have happened to the Sardinians in Marassi? Did the absences weigh too much or did Genoa simply prove superior?
“Sometimes, mistakenly, we think that after having done very well against three very famous opponents, then, when we meet Genoa, we can, I won’t say, stroll, but certainly play even better. However, it doesn’t work that way. The Grifone has a nice gaming system, and at home it is doubly fearsome. Simply, from a technical but also tactical point of view, some teams manage to put you in more difficulty than others.”
Coming to Lecce, what technical-tactical pitfalls will the next Unipol Domus crossroads present? How do Gotti’s Giallorossi approach matches away from Via del Mare?
“Meanwhile, Lecce will definitely come to Cagliari to try to play the match. He won’t speculate on the result, because someone like Gotti always tries to impose his own game. Naturally, we will then have to see what and how much Cagliari will grant him. But the Giallorossi are good at dribbling, maneuvering and also attacking depth.
