“Troccoli Magna Graecia” national award, here are the winners • Wonders of Calabria

The winners of the national “Troccoli Magna Graecia” award have been made official. Awards that will be delivered during the 38th edition which will take place on Saturday 18 May 2024 starting at 6pm in the municipal theater of Cassano Jonio. The Scientific Committee of the National Award, in fact, after having examined and selected the applications received from universities, national cultural centers, publishing houses and individual candidates, has announced the names of the winners of the various sections.

The winners

He was awarded for non-fiction Rocco G. Tassoneteacher and essayist, for the volume “Michelangelo Bellissimo and the massacre of Nichel UT”, (Unipont) while the Special Mention-Non-fiction went to Holy Layers journalist, director, screenwriter, essayist, author from Calabria, Italy, (Media &Book).

Maristella Massariessayist and researcher, conquered the Research section with La memoria dei vinti (Mandese editore) despite being a reconstruction of tragic events, it lends itself to a gripping and quick read that holds up for the subject matter covered and the easily flowing style.

For the Poetry section she was awarded Matilde Tortora poet, essayist, historian and film critic, former professor of History and Criticism of Cinema at the Dams of the University of Calabria, author of Abbeccedario del Bosco (the hot air balloon ed.), while Angela GF Giordanoteacher and poet, won the recognition for the Poetry First Work section, with the anthology Dina’s nursery rhymes (Editorial distributions).

Emanuele Merlino - Wonders of Calabria - 10

The “F. Toscano ofs” was awarded to Emanuele Merlino, author of A Hero. Ermenegildo Rossi (Eclettica Ed.), based on a deep dig into the facts, has opened a new way of looking at the events of a twentieth century read in a comparative way.

After having screened and selected the applications for the Journalism section, the award was awarded to Rino Barillari photojournalist, internationally referred to as: The King of Paparazzi. Its precious photographic archive contains, preserves and tells through images the beauty and success of famous people all over the world and is studied in the most prestigious Italian and foreign universities.

The special prize for the protection of book and archival assets was awarded to the professor Rita Fiordalisi, teacher, essayist and former director of the National Library of Cosenza; another special prize for Pedagogical Culture and Guidance Teaching was awarded to the teacher Antonella Dèmolaessayist, educational and cultural communicator.

Nicola Leone Unical Rector - Wonders of Calabria - 18

For the special section “Honoring excellence” the recognition was given to the professor Nicola Leone Magnificent Rector of the University of Calabria for having strongly desired, promoted and supported the ‘internationalisation’ of the University of Calabria with gratifying results.

The prize

The national “Troccoli Magna Graecia” award is a literary recognition for research and cultural promotion, organized by the “Cresesm. This award is dedicated to the promotion and valorisation of historical and literary research on contemporary authors. The award is divided into the sections: Non-Fiction, Poetry, Research, “Targa F. Toscano”, Journalism, School and Photography.

The event program

The awards ceremony, conducted by Andrea De Iacovo, will take place in the municipal theater of Cassano all’Ionio on Saturday 18 May at 6pm.
After the institutional greetings, Pierfranco Bruni, president of the Capital Italian Book Jury 2024 and president of the Scientific Committee of the Prize, will take care of the focus on “Francesco Grisi. 25 years after his passing ”.

This will be followed by a “Homage to Taurianova, Italian Book Capital 2024” which will be held by the Presidency of the Executive and Council of the Calabria Region and the National Award Troccoli Magna Graecia will give to the Municipality of Taurianova – in the persons of the mayor Rocco Biasi and the councilor for Culture Maria Fedele – because they are committed, together with the associations and cultural movements that operate in the municipal territory, in spreading the habit of reading, in enhancing the image of the book and to be laboratories of pedagogy, of cultural, civil and social redemption.
The ceremony will finally continue with the delivery of certificates to the students of the IS Institutes Inferiori and Superiori.
