ROME. He stole a cell phone and then quickly fled to avoid being arrested by the police, but was hit and killed by a moving train. The victim is a Nigerian citizen and the story is sadly similar to what happened on March 14th when a 49-year-old Bulgarian, on board a stolen scooter, died after colliding with a car while fleeing from a police patrol. In this case too, in fact, the victim died on the tracks, near Ponte Casilino, while fleeing from the officers.

The impact was lethal and so strong that fingerprints were taken by the Scientific Police to identify him. It was around 10am yesterday when the boy stole a cell phone from a woman. She began to scream and ask for help and the thief, to escape to a place where he could not be traced, climbed over one of the gates that lead to the tracks of the Sant’Elena station. He then found himself on the deviation of the entrance tracks to the station, not realizing that one of the trains – specifically the one headed to Rome, departing from Velletri, at 10.20 – was returning. The impact was fatal for him. Railway police officers carrying out the investigation intervened on site and the 300 train passengers were transferred to another train. While the movement of trains was interrupted for the time necessary to carry out the surveys.
