To the Modern Theater of GrossetoSunday 5 May at 9.00 pm, the cult show written by Franca Rame and directed in 1983 by Dario Fo, staged directed by Alessandro Tedeschi of Carrozzeria Orfeo.

Written by Franca Rame, “Open couple…almost wide open” is an irreverent and entertaining show about marriage, which had great success in Italy and abroad since its first staging directed by Dario Fo in 1983. In Germany it was so successful that it was performed in thirty theaters simultaneously. Male psychology and the relative intolerance to the concept of monogamy are brought to the stage, amidst contradictions and self-irony.
In the role he was Franca Rame: Chiara Francini, the Florentine actress, presenter and writer who has established herself among the general public in cinema and television, joined on stage by Alessandro Federico in a classic Italian comedy which tells the tragicomic story of a married couple, children of 1968, who decide to save their marriage by resorting to the ‘open couple’ method. The trigger for the story is as simple as it is effective: a couple argues, she is exasperated by the constant betrayals and he is perched on her pleasure-loving superficiality. But the shadow of a man in her life is enough to undermine the myth of the “open couple”.
“The which is why this text is so famous – explains Chiara Francini in an interview – it’s that it’s incredibly timely, incredibly well written, and it’s iconic for what it says, what it represents, and how it says it. It is current precisely because it tells what it means to be a couple within marriage, what are the characteristics, even without making a lump of everything, that women have in conceiving the couple as a nest, an organism two, while in fact there is this wonderful representation of the husband, of the male who instead desperately tries to keep this warm nest, the wife at home, theorising this open, almost wide-open couple, so that he can also have the possibility of having fun outside of the couple.”
The direction is by Alessandro Tedeschi, extraordinary interpreter and director of Carrozzeria Orfeo.
