Starting from Tuesday 16 April 2024, the so-called “migration” process of emergency calls from the telephone districts 080 (Bari) and 0831 (Brindisi) to the Single European Emergency Number 1-1-2 (NUE 112) will be launched
The NUE 1-1-2 Service is the Single European Emergency Number to call for any type of rescue request and will replace the current numbers 112 (Carabinieri), 113 (State Police), 115 (Fire Brigade), 118 (Medical Rescue) and 1530 (Emergency at sea). These numbers in Puglia will remain active at the moment but the ones who will respond will be the Single Response Center (CUR) NUE 1-1-2 relating to the Special Regional Structure for the start-up of the NUE, based in the Civil Protection Department of the Puglia Region. The 126 category B3 units hired with a specific competition by the Puglia Region last December will work at the NUE Puglia and, when fully operational, will be assigned to the CUR offices of Modugno (Ba), Foggia and Campi Salentina (Le). The operators of the CUR NUE 1-1-2 Puglia have been adequately trained to manage the first response to the emergency call and assign the calls to the Bodies (second level response centre), which guarantee the rescue operations, through a more punctual localization of the intervention site and through the use of an interpreting service for foreign citizens. The Single Response Center of the Single Emergency Number 1-1-2 is active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Aligning with the guidelines established by European directives, the NUE guarantees free calls, accessibility from any terminal and for disabled users, a multilingual service, as well as the use of technologies that allow for more accurate localization of calls.
The engineering of the NUE 1-1-2 system ensures the continuity of the service also through the so-called control of the exchanges (CUR): in the event of an increase in the number of calls for emergencies with widespread impact on the territory (earthquakes, floods, fires), the flow of calls on a Switchboard can be distributed by other Single Response Switchboards in the regional territory or in other regions, in order to guarantee the answer to all calls and increase the efficiency of response times.
From next April 16, therefore, citizens who call from the telephone districts of Bari (080) and Brindisi (0831), in case of emergency and request for help, will be able to continue to use the numbers (112, 113, 115, 118, 1530 ) or dial 112 directly and exclusively. Following the planned schedule, by May 28th the NUE 1-1-2 Service will be active throughout Puglia.
