In Canelli, in the province of Asti, an 18-year-old asylum seeker, Nafugi Manneh, was attacked with sticks in the center and died. The young man, originally from Gambia, was a guest of the Extraordinary Reception Center in Cassinasco. The 18-year-old was attacked before the eyes of passers-by.
Rescue services intervened on site, unfortunately in vain, despite immediate transport to Alessandria hospital: there was nothing that could be done for him. According to investigators, the 18-year-old was attacked by a group of other asylum seekers of Pakistani origin, armed with sticks and chains.
The very violent attack was recorded by video surveillance cameras which made it possible to trace those responsible. For this reason, a 24-year-old Pakistani man was stopped, who apparently fled with the other participants. He too was a guest of the Cassinasco Centre.
At the basis of the dispute there would be arguments and disagreements that had already emerged in the past within the structure.
The investigations by the police, alerted by the Single Emergency Number, made it possible to reconstruct the dynamics of the event and to subsequently trace, in the municipal area of Canelli, both the alleged attacker and another of the participants. The military, given the serious evidence gathered, then proceeded to arrest the alleged attacker on the same evening for attempted murder, and reported a third individual, a 24-year-old Pakistani man, for aggravated brawling. The man is now in Asti prison, awaiting the hearing to validate his arrest.
