POTENZA – The Archdiocese of Potenza is preparing to welcome the new archbishop, Monsignor Davide Carbonaro. His entry into the city is on Saturday 18 May, the eve of Pentecost. An important event not only for the Christian community but also for civil society. The episcopal succession which will culminate in the taking of canonical possession of the Diocese and in the concelebration of the launch of the new ministry, will be preceded by two other important deadlines: the episcopal consecration of the Bishop Elect, on 4 May in Rome, and the greeting of the apostolic administrator Monsignor Ligorio, the 13th of the same month. The canonical and theological significance of the passage of the pastoral and the practical and logistical aspects that these deadlines will entail were illustrated this morning, in a press conference, by the episcopal vicars Don Antonio Savone and Don Massimiliano Scavon.

On the morning of May 18, Monsignor Carbonaro will go up to the Sacro Monte of Viggiano to place his ministry under the protection of the Mother of God; immediately afterwards – again in private form – he will visit the hospice of the “San Carlo” hospital; at 12, in the Cathedral, the canonical possession of the diocese will take place, also receiving the “act of obedience”. Monsignor Ligorio, archbishop emeritus, will leave Potenza for Grottaglie a few days later.
