Giuseppe Tupputithe regional councilor who left Con in recent weeks, announced this morning (2 May) that he will join the council group of Forza Italia. With him will move part of the group from the north of Bari elected in Michele Emiliano’s civic body and now ready to support FI’s cause. The new Italian councilor immediately clarified his position on the motion of no confidence presented by the opposition which will be voted on May 7: «I will not support it, I’m against it – explained the former exponent of the Via Gentile majority – I think that political problems should be solved through politics. However, if other judicial issues emerge, someone will have to do the necessary reflections.” Tupputi then explained the reasons for choosing him: «I thank Con, a group that up to a certain point has worked collectively for regional politics. Then the compass was lost.” And on the reasons that brought him to Forza Italia, he adds: «It’s not a courageous choice, it’s a choice consistency. Besides me, other local administrators will join FI. We must do, not occupy. It’s about coherence because at this moment I could have entered that list of names for the new council, but instead I chose to move in a free, independent and loyal manner. I’ve never been interested in armchairs.”
Accusations of transformationism rejected
Then the response to those who accuse him of transformism: «I welcomed the invitation of the national president of the party Antonio Tajani to the territorial civic lists, is a historic step. It means having a new vision of politics, looking at the territory in a very concrete way. It was Con’s vision, I don’t feel like a quick-change artist. Today within Forza Italia we have transformed a utopia into a concrete dream.” On the movements of the other administrators, Tupputi adds: «Many Bat elected officials will leave Con, between Minervino, Barletta, San Ferdinando and Trani. Some of us in Trinitapoli have already been candidates in the centre-right.”
Also present during the press conference was Forza Italia senator Dario Damiani, who marked the path for the next administrative elections: «Bari and Lecce are centre-right cities. This is demonstrated by the passion that has developed for submitting applications. If I think of Bari, where the presentation of the committee Fabio Romito it has become a party then I understand that the path is the right one.”
But Forza Italia attacks Emiliano
While Paride Mazzotta, leader of the Italian group in the regional council, attacks Emiliano in view of Tuesday 7 May: «Above all there will be a discussion in the chamber, we believe that this regional government must end because unfortunately the council has been at a standstill for months and we have seen how for the renewal of the presidencies of the commission took seven months. Not to mention the regional council that was called and then cancelled.” Then Mazzotta adds: «There is a majority in great distress, we say it clearly and we will also say it in the chamber: the people of Puglia must realize what is happening here in Puglia». And on possible new changes of shirt, the Italian number one in via Gentile does not close the doors of Forza Italia: «I can’t know, but certainly when a person who sits in the majority goes to the other side it still represents an important signal. And today we welcome this with great favor.”
