“Guarding Memories… at the museum” returns to the Carrara Academy

Back in Carrara Academy Preserving Memories… at the museum, the inclusive cultural welfare initiative in collaboration with the Ferb Onlus Alzheimer Center of Excellence of Gazzaniga and Generazioni FA Società Cooperativa Sociale.

Keeping memories… at the museum offers an integrated path to promote well-being dedicated to people with Alzheimer’s and caregivers, invited to the museum with tailor-made meetings. At the heart of this new phase of the Custodire memoria project there is a collective plan, a sharing of visions and objectives between different entities in the area engaged in projects that put the person at the centre: Carrara Academy, Ferb Onlus Alzheimer Center of Excellence in Gazzaniga And Generations FA Social Cooperative Society.

Born in 2019 as a non-pharmacological therapy intended for people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, Custodire memoria enters the Accademia Carrara, in the place of beauty, thus representing a cultural welfare project in all respects: works of art become a tool for expressing experiences and emotions; the museum becomes a place of relationship, relief and well-being. The museum’s heritage becomes a support for therapy directly in the Carrara rooms, through two paths guided by expert figures: museum educators, specialized educators, psychologists.

“The museum as a tool for well-being is an emerging concept in discussions about the role of museums in society. The success of our project with and for people with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers underlines the importance of this idea and demonstrates that access to art and culture also has a healing value” he declares Martina Bagnoli director of the Carrara Academy.

Cherishing memories… at the museum includes a rich calendar of meetings, upon mandatory reservation, developed along two paths: a series of appointments for caregivers and people with dementia together, led by a museum educator and a specialized educator; a cycle of five meetings for caregivers only, conducted by a museum educator and a psychologist.
