Descriptive text here

Friday 3 May at 5.30 pm, in the AUSER in Corso Comandini 7 in Cesena, a meeting will be held on the topic of the exclusion of women from the world of art, organized by the associations Ipatia liberadonne and Amici dell’Arte, with the patronage of the municipality of Cesena.

There are thousands of female artists who have existed over the centuries, some of them with extraordinary talent, yet invisible, of whom there is no trace in art history manuals, considered in the common imagination at most as “inspiring muses” or “protagonists” of immortal works, rarely as possible creators, themselves, of pages of art worthy of attention or, in any case, of respectful consideration.

Rita Alù’s book, “The other half of art. A history to be rewritten”which will be presented on Friday afternoon in the presence of the author.

The narrative path of “The Other Half of Art” is inspired by the well-known question posed by the American scholar Linda Nochlin in the essay “Why have there been no great female artists?” and you are interested in a time span that goes from the Middle Ages to the present day.
In different stages it addresses the peculiar aspects that emerge from the work and life of those women who, with courage and determination, have chosen to become artists by profession. 163 painters and sculptors mentioned, with an in-depth analysis accompanied by the biography of some of them with images and color plates.

A book, published by Torri del vento edizioni, which can be a useful tool for knowledge, especially for the younger generations. According to the author, in fact, school is a fundamental step in ensuring a more equal and respectful society of the future and in breaking down gender stereotypes and prejudices.
