For some years there has been a slow and progressive depopulation of the historic center due to the transfer of residents and economic activities towards the Sacro Cuore district. In a recent work carried out by mapping approximately one square kilometer of the historic center of Modica Alta and Modica Bassa, the Modicaltra Association has recorded 5661 buildings, of which 2174 were empty, due to abandonment or unuse by the owners. Taking up the data, believing that we cannot remain indifferent to all this, Vito D’Antona of the Italian Left asks the municipal administration to intervene in this sense and work at all levels to reverse the trend and revitalize the historic centre, through a short and long term project. But the branch councilor, Giorgio Belluardo, although aware of the preference of Modicans for the new parts of the city, both at a residential and commercial level, does not consider the situation an emergency and offers his perspective
