02/05/2024 – During the 56th edition of Vinitaly, the Marche Region highlighted its commitment to organic and sustainability.

With 107 participating wineries and one biological surface area which almost reaches 7,700 hectaresequal to almost 43% of the total used agricultural area, the region demonstrates how sustainability can integrate perfectly with quality production.

There province of Ascoli Piceno and Fermo shows an even greater incidence, with over the 46% of organically managed vineyards. 3,849 hectares of vineyards classified as “organic” out of a total of 8,305 hectares.

The Marche proposal at Vinitaly therefore stands out for a vision that intertwines food and wine excellence with respect for the environment, through an advanced and conscious wine development model. Representing one of the most significant examples of sustainable commitment in the Italian wine scene.

Behind this offer there is a real strategy which, as stated bythe Agriculture Councilor of the Marche Andrea Maria Antonini is not limited to organic cultivation alone. Sustainability and wine tourism I am have become the pillars on which the promotion of the territory is based. This vision translates into a series of initiatives that enhance not only the wines, but the entire cultural and landscape heritage of the region, attracting visitors who are increasingly sensitive to these issues. The approach is therefore holistic: wine as an emblem of a territory that is expressed and told also through environmentally friendly practices.

After all, in the current economic context, sustainability is no longer an option, but a necessity for companies in every sector. The activities are found to have to integrate ecological criteria not only for an ethical question, but also to respond to new rules and regulations, such as the one for which the sustainability report has become mandatory for a large number of companies.

But despite requiring a series of changes, and in some cases considerable investments, companies in the Marche region have embraced the concept of 360-degree sustainability. Thanks both to the environmental benefits it produces but also to the advantages in economic terms: being sustainable gives companies a significant competitive advantage.

AND the data confirms the commitment. According to a report from the Italian Environment Research Institute, presented in March 2024 on the occasion of the Circonomia event, the Marche is positioned at the top of the Italian regions for environmental sustainability. With better performance in 20 out of 25 indicators compared to the national average. This success reflects the attention towards a business model that reduces environmental impact and promotes a more circular and sustainable development model.

In other words, Vinitaly was only the latest stage in which the Marche demonstrated how a region can use its natural and cultural resources not only to promote a product of excellence, such as wine, but also to encourage broader transformation towards sustainability. With benefits that positively influence the regional economy, tourist attractiveness and the quality of life of citizens.
