“Tomorrow I will be in Rome at the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security to discuss the remediation of former industrial sites.

A cleanup that has been going on for too long. We have to say enough. Enough of the multinational Eni and all those who think they can carry out a clean-up on the cheap.

I will never accept it, as I also reiterated in the recent City Council.

Everyone is asking to take the waste out of the region, as required by the decision-making Services Conference of 24 October 2019.

It is the will of all the people of Crotone which is also my will which I have expressed in all forms.

On this topic the city is united. And then, on the basis of this common understanding, I do one more thing.

I ask the Sovreco company, whose owners are from Crotone, not to accept that waste.

Among other things, at present, waste with asbestos matrix cannot be disposed of in the landfill.

No one has asked so far. I ask it, the mayor of Crotone asks it on behalf of all the citizens.

This is because we need to join forces. And everyone must contribute to supporting our line which is that of a real reclamation and not a downward one as Eni intends to impose.

On this path we are united with the Province and Region.

I will also ask that the cleanup costs estimated in 2019 be reevaluated.

Costs that will also have to be re-evaluated in light of new technologies that will necessarily have to be taken into consideration.

I will renew the invitation to the Calabria Region to enforce the guarantee policy issued by Eni.

And then we will do the cleanup, a real cleanup in the interest of our city, of protecting the health of citizens, for the future development of our city.”

The mayor of Crotone Vincenzo Voce stated this in a note.
