the First Officer and the Commander are Calabrian

“Ryanair’s success in Reggio Calabria is there for all to see just a few days after its launch. But perhaps some news has gone unnoticed that makes all of us Calabrians a little proud. Who brought the first 737-800 NG of the low-cost company to Reggio? The first officer is the legendary Maura Scalercio, a true Calabrian.” Thus CAP Calabria in a post on its official profiles.

“And the Commander? The Commander is Loris Tripodi born and raised in Reggio Calabria. Father, former Alitalia employee, Loris obtained his civil flight license at Aero Club Dello Strait ASD from Reggio Calabria at a very young age and then broadened his horizons by trying out in the Navy and winning the competition. A very difficult competition where few survive, but he becomes a military pilot. The Navy sends him to America, to Pensacola, where he acquires an American military pilot’s license. He finally returns to Italy and is immediately assigned to the combat helicopters on board. He travels the world with several missions under his belt.”

“The time came later, for him too, to hang up his military stars and he landed at Ryanair, where he currently holds the role of Commander of 737 and Base Captain (chief pilot) Reg in Reggio Calabria. What makes us even more proud is that Loris was the first pilot of the Irish company to have made the first operational landing in the difficult Reggio Calabria airport, the same airport where, about 27 years ago, he started flying. ” (Source: Facebook Cap Calabria)
