Request for a Codacons hearing after the arrests in Agrigento

The president of Codacons asks to be heard by the DDA and the Palermo Prosecutor’s Office following the arrests in the Municipality of Agrigento.

The president of Codacons, Giuseppe Di Rosa, asked to be heard by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) and the Palermo Prosecutor’s Office following the arrests of managers and consultants of the Municipality of Agrigento. The request is motivated by the awareness of alleged administrative crimes within the assembly of mayors of the D1 Agrigento district, which includes numerous municipalities in the province.

According to Di Rosa, there are unclear operations that have involved the transfer of funds from the social health district accounts to the municipal coffers, together with doubts about the hiring of social workers and other figures. It is estimated that in 2021 alone, 12 million euros were spent without a regular resolution by the assembly of mayors.

The president of Codacons has long focused his attention on Gaetano Di Giovanni, head of the Cabinet, commander of the municipal police and former head of the D1 health and social district. Di Giovanni was arrested last April 11th by the carabinieri of the Partinico company on charges of corruption in competition. The request for clarification by Codacons reflects the desire to further investigate alleged administrative irregularities within regional local authorities.
