The P’s investigations are nearing completionruin of Venice towards Filippo Turettathe twenty-two-year-old student from Torreglia, in the province of Padua, who is accused of voluntary manslaughter for killing his ex-girlfriend, Giulia Cecchettin, 22 years old, from Vigonovo. Six months have passed since the terrifying bloody event which had its epilogue in a desperate escape which ended in Germany, after the girl’s body had been thrown into a cliff between Barcis and Piancavallor, in the province of Pordenone. The novelty on the judicial front is the magistrates’ intention to contest the aggravating circumstance of premeditation, which could be a prelude to a life sentence. For the moment there is a race against time to get to the preliminary hearing with the indictment before the weekday break, so as to lead to the trial being held in the autumn session of the Assize Court.

The investigations are coordinated by the deputy Andrea Petroni, which ordered some decisive expert reports to dispute premeditation. This is first and foremost an analysis entrusted to the Carabinieri of the Parm Risto traces found on Turetta’s car, starting with the quantity and positioning of the traces of blood. They will be used to reconstruct the dynamics of feminicide. Was it an impulsive gesture or a showdown with the girl who was about to graduate and she no longer wanted to have a relationship with him? Another expert opinion concerns iTuretta’s mobile phone and PCwith the analysis of text messages, conversations and searches carried out on the internet, which can tell a lot about the days preceding Giulia’s death.

An element in support of premeditation is constituted by two knives that the student had brought with him on the day of the appointment with Giulia, which involved the purchase of a pair of shoes that the girl would have to wear on her graduation day. The blade of a kitchen knife was found on the asphalt in Vigonovo, where the car attack began. A second knife was found in the car at the time of Turetta’s arrest. It was also there on the Fiat Punto a roll of duct tape, then used to immobilize Giulia. These circumstances are enough to support that Philip had planned to kill, together with the recording of passage in the area of the murder before the appointment with Giulia, almost as if you wanted to check the state of the places in advance?

The murder occurred on Saturday 11 November. Giulia was a brilliant student and was about to graduate, while Filippo had delayed in his studies and according to some testimonies he insisted that his ex-girlfriend also slow down her academic career. He feared losing her permanently. Turetta had not resigned himself to the end of the love story, he was insistent, he even checked on Giulia by asking her to call him in the evening before falling asleep. That day the situation had exploded.

The two boys had visited some shops in a shopping center in Marghera, where they had dinner. The attack occurred shortly after 11pm on board the Fiat Punto. A witness he had heard the girl’s screams and had also raised the alarm, but the complaint did not prompt immediate intervention. A company camera had filmed Giulia while she tried to get out of the car, but she was blocked by Filippo and thrown to the ground. Then his body was loaded into the trunk and the car drove away. The reconstruction had taken place only in retrospect, when the drama had ended, Giulia had died and Filippo had gotten rid of her body and began an escape that ended on a German motorway.
