Sacchi: “Milan, why not keep Pioli? Only Inter did better…”

Interviewed with Gazzetta dello Sport, Sacchi comments on the complicated moment that Milan and Pioli are going through

In a long interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Arrigo Sacks comments on the complicated moment that Milan is going through, starting with the future of the Rossoneri bench. “I read that, to replace Pioli, the names of Lopetegui, Fonseca, Galtier, Gallardo, Tedesco, Van Bommel, De Zerbi are being circulated. Technicians I know and for whom I have deep respect. However, regardless of everyone’s CV, it seems to me that one fundamental aspect has not been taken into consideration“.

Which?

«The fact that if it is complicated for a foreign player to fit into Italian football, it is even more so for a coach. In my opinion it takes at least two seasons to understand what our football is and how it is. And I say this regardless of the value of the coaches taken into consideration. Anyone who arrives needs time to adapt to a different reality compared to all other countries.”

So what to do?

«Why not keep Pioli? I believe that his experience at Milan is overall positive. He won a championship and the club had spent less than its opponents. On that occasion he surprised everyone and entertained the audience. This season, if all goes well, he will finish second in the league: it means that only Inter have done better. And then can I ask a question?”.

Please.

«Did Pioli all want the players who were purchased or were they chosen by the managers? Because, if they have been chosen by the managers, the responsibilities must be divided in half. I believe that Pioli deserves respect for what he gave to Milan and for how he behaved. It seems to me that his confirmation would not be a stopgap. Far from it. He is a coach who has been able to improve over time. It’s true that he also made mistakes, but making mistakes is human. And above all he is an honest person who, I have read, has recently had the humility to question himself and admit his mistakes.”
