Agrigento | Thirty years after the death of Ayrton Senna: the Sicilian origins of the legendary Formula 1 champion » Webmarte.tv

Thirty years have passed since the tragic Imola Grand Prix of 1994, where a legend of Formula 1, the Brazilian Ayrton Senna, lost his life. The day before, Austrian Roland Ratzenberger had lost his life during qualifying.

Tragic events that made the history of motor racing and changed the very concept of Formula 1, where the idea of risking one’s life in every single race was no longer accepted.

Counted among the greatest champions of all time, Ayrton Senna flowed in his veins Sicilian blood. The pilot, in fact, had distant origins from Agrigento, precisely in Siculiana.

On May 4th the mayor of Siculiana, Giuseppe Zscopio, will confer honorary citizenship on Senna, making contact with the Senna foundation, created by his sister Viviane and now managed by his nephews, Bruno and Bianca, who will be present at the event.

The proposal, with a council resolution approved last month, features at the beginning a sentence from the great champion with an equally big heart: “The rich cannot live on an island surrounded by an ocean of poverty. We all breathe the same air. We need to give everyone a chance.”
