from 12pm no music and from 8pm no takeaway alcohol

PADUA – The Municipality renews the ordinances that prohibit the sale of takeaway alcohol after 8pm and the use of cash registers connected to smartphones after midnight. Yesterday, in fact, the mayor Sergio Giordani renewed the two devices until October 31st. The two ordinances have a common purpose: to combat annoying nightlife. Both, in fact, meet the requests that, for years now, have been arriving from the residents of the squares and Portello, exasperated by the thousands of young people who, especially on Wednesdays and at weekends, spend the evening and, very often the night, in the heart of the center historic or, precisely, at Portello.

ALCOHOL
As regards the anti-alcohol ordinance in force since October 2023, this establishes until next October 31st from 8pm to 7am, the ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages to take away throughout the historic centre, at Portello, in the Station area, at Stanga and beyond. The ordinance is aimed at all businesses that sell alcohol: from clubs to supermarkets. However, you can continue to consume alcohol within public establishments and their stalls.

THE AREAS
The device is in force in the area between the Saracinesca barrier, via Cernaia, porta San Giovanni, via Euganea (the stretch between porta San Giovanni and via Orsini), via Orsini, porta Savonarola, via Bronzetti, porta Trento, via Sarpi, viale Codalunga, via Trieste, via Bassi, via Tommaseo, via Venezia, piazzale Della Stanga, via Ariosto, via Gattamelata, via Modena, via Scarsellini, via Manzoni, via Bruno, via Costa, viale Cavallotti, Ponte del Sostegno and via Goito. However, the ordinance that prohibits the use of Bluetooth speakers from midnight to 6 am which, especially younger people, use to amplify the music on their smartphones dates back to June 2023.
The ban, which has in fact been renewed until October 31st, remains valid in the entire public area of the historic center delimited by the sixteenth-century walls (excluding Prato della Valle) and in a portion of the Portello district. A ban that also concerns the use of any musical instrument or amplifier.

ACTIONS
In addition to the ordinances, in recent years the Municipality has also implemented other initiatives against noisy nightlife. These include the use of stewards who, this year too, returned on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays to keep watch in the squares and at the Portello. To keep the presence of waste to a minimum, many bars have equipped themselves with glasses as a deposit and additional rubbish bins have been set up in the most sensitive places. One problem, that of “bad nightlife”, is particularly felt at Portello. It is no coincidence, in fact, that this year the Navigli have fielded up to eight stewards with licenses from the Prefecture for safety and anti-noise barriers. These had been loudly requested by the residents of the neighborhood and by the leader of the League Eleonora Mosco. Among the requests coming from those who live in the areas affected by the phenomenon there is also the request that chemical toilets be set up in Portelo and in the squares and that the opening hours of the public toilets in Piazza Delle Erbe and Piazza Delle Erbe be extended until midnight. via Pietro d’Abano. Another request is for a greater presence of the local police at night. Those who live in the square had finally asked the Municipality to carry out some surveys on the intensity of the noise at night. To date, however, Palazzo Moroni would not be able to carry out these surveys.
