FOLIGNO, 1 May 2024 – “Living the mission as protagonists and not as spectators in social commitment, for the dignity of people, for peace among all Peoples”.
This is the exhortation that Monsignor Luigi Filippucci addresses to his faithful of the Pastoral Unit “Sant’Eraclio – Cancellara” on the occasion of the celebrations for the Patron Saint Eraclio, a young Roman soldier who converted to Christianity, martyr in 251 AD under the Roman emperor Decius.
A rich program which is characterized both by the religious but also cultural aspect, which focuses on dialogue with the new generations, whose training represents the objective that the entire community of Sant’Eraclio has been pursuing for years, offering young people , opportunities, experiences for healthy growth based on values, both individual and community.
Celebrations that continue from 14 April and will end on Saturday 4 May 2024. The associations and bodies that operate in the populous Foligno area actively collaborated in the drafting of the events which also encourage sociality and aggregation.
This year too, on the occasion of the Patron Saint, from 14 to 28 April, the sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation were imparted to children and adolescents. On these Sundays the entire town shared the joy of the families involved, participating affectively in the liturgical celebrations. On Thursday 2 May at 9pm, an interesting event “In dialogue with graduates of the year 2022 – 2023” will be held in the premises of the Youth Center in Piazza Fratti.
An opportunity in which the children of Sant’Eraclio, based on the skills acquired, will be able to lay the foundations to build the world of tomorrow. Elisa Manenti moderates the meeting. Friday 3 May at 4.30 pm in the main square there will be games and sports workshops for all the children of the town promoted by the parish oratory “Don Mariano Filippini” followed by sharing and tasting of the gastronomic excellences.
On Saturday 4 May at 4pm at the former Molino Viola in the Castello dei Trinci the Fotoclub del Dopolavoro Ferroviario and the Comunanza Agraria of Sant’Eraclio inaugurate the photographic exhibition of two talented artists Gastone Tonnetti “Interessi diversi” and Luigi Pugnali “An artist of mountain”. The exhibition will be open to visitors from 4 to 9 May from 5pm to 7pm.
At 5pm on Saturday 4 May, the liturgical celebration of the martyrdom of Saint Eraclius with San Mauro and San Giusto, the solemn community Mass will be held while at 5.45pm the Procession will take place starting from the Cross of Saint Eraclius which was inaugurated on the 5th June 1892 and blessed by the diocesan bishop Monsignor Federici.
The current inscription was placed in the column decorated in Renaissance style: “This column indicates the place where Saint Heraclius suffered martyrdom in the year CCLI – the people erected this Castle in the year MDCCCXCII”. The procession will continue through the streets of the hamlet and will be attended by the young people to be confirmed and communicated with their respective families, the inhabitants of the hilly hamlets, the bodies and associations of Sant’Eraclio and a representation of the Contrastanga district of the Giostra della Quintana body.
At the end the Blessing with the relic of the Patron Saint. The day will end with the artistic performance of the Flag Throwers and Musicians of the City of Foligno.
