Bari, the cycle path does not save the industrial area. It’s still a slalom between potholes and degradation

Cycle paths are not enough to redevelop an area that for years has suffered from neglect and lack of attention from the relevant bodies. The streets of the industrial area of Bari remain a sieve, and the protests of workers and entrepreneurs who travel through the Asi area every day to reach the many factories and offices of the major production sites in the capital have been of no avail.

Driving along the road that leads from the city center to the industrial area, you easily come across potholes as large as chasms and the road surface damaged in several places. In recent times, with the boom in micromobility, the number of people traveling on scooters or electric bikes has increased exponentially.

So much so that a long cycle path has been built in the industrial area that crosses it. A phenomenon, sponsored by the municipal administration, which however, given the shameful state of maintenance of the asphalt, risks being a serious danger despite the interventions carried out. Drivers’ inconveniences vary depending on the neighborhoods they leave from each morning.

For example, in the Murat area, what hinders drivers are above all the construction sites, which are now popping up like mushrooms. Some last a few hours, others have been there for years. The far west begins from the Libertà district. Via Indipendenza, via Generale de Bernardis, via Dante, via Principe Amedeo: all the streets that lead to via Brigata Bari look like Kabul. Crossing via Bruno Buozzi, we therefore enter the industrial area.

Viale Europa welcomes us, where we have to slalom between the craters. A serious threat to public safety is via Pasquale La Rotella. Immediately after taking the roundabout, a series of deep potholes, never patched, put traffic to the test. And so, after quite a few dents, we arrive at the heart of the industrial area, the area between via Lindemann and via De Blasio.

Here too, bad roads, poor lighting and no care for the greenery. In short: not exactly a good postcard in the eyes of those who do business, and those who work, in the most important production area of the region.
