The images of Justice in Leonardo Sciascia and Nicola Curzio’s Looks on contemporary cinema
A meeting in the name of the symbolic correspondences between Nicola Curzio’s profound views on contemporary cinema and the return of Sciascia’s torment on the theme of “The possibilities that perhaps still remain for justice”, as evoked in the epigraph, taken from F. Dürrenmatt, by “A simple story”. In fact, Sciasciano’s latest novel draws inspiration from the theft of an “image”, the canvas of the “Nativity with Saints Lorenzo and Francis of Assisi” by Caravaggio, which occurred in Palermo in 1969.
The event conceived and organized by the Agrigento Bar Association in collaboration with the Sicilia Mater cultural column is included among the initiatives of the May of books 2024 “If you read you will free yourself” and has the patronage of the National Association of Magistrates district section of Palermo, of the Nicola Curzio Foundation, of the Valle dei Templi Archaeological Park of Agrigento and of the Chiaramontane Factories of the Orestiadi Foundation which host the event.
And the two volumes being presented draw a line of connection and symbolic affinities between the legal spheres explored in the publication edited by the Council of the Bar Association of Agrigento “About Law, Truth, Justice” collection of the proceedings of two conferences dedicated to Leonardo Sciascia, on the occasion of the centenary of his birth, and to his incessant and current questions on the theme of Justice, and the dizzying reflections on contemporary cinema opened by Nicola Curzio in “Before everything returns dark” published by Laterza.
