Budget, red alert in the Municipality

Accounts in the red in the second year of Frontini’s mandate. Yesterday the 2023 management report arrived at the city council. Alarming, according to the opposition, which immediately highlighted, with councilor Francesca Sanna (Pd), “a minus 7 million and 600 thousand euros of difference between revenues and expenses of the characteristic management, i.e. of the typical activity of the Municipality”.

Bad news on budget balances

With extraordinary charges and income alone, the figure drops to less than one million and 800 thousand euros. There is also bad news on budget balances: minus 15 million euros in the current portion to cover multi-year investments, Sanna once again pointed out, when instead last year there was a positive balance of 4 million and 436 thousand euros. Another figure on which the opposition asked for clarification was the value of the shares in the subsidiaries, which went from one and a half million to 5 million and 300 thousand euros. In this regard, Mayor Frontini announced that “the dual-purpose tender is being studied, which will presumably be announced within the year, if not by the summer for the sale of 40% of the Talete shares to private individuals”.

Red alert in the Municipality

But yesterday it was the examination of the statement that took center stage: “The income statement is negative for one million and 700 thousand euros compared to the previous year which was positive. This is a worrying sign,” said the dem Alvaro Ricci, addressing the budget councilor, Elena Angiani. “If the result of typical management is negative, then the situation is alarming. Net worth – continued Ricci – went from 90 million euros in 2022 to 54 million euros in 2023. There is a critical auditors’ report on some points, and there is a strong contraction in revenue and a sharp increase of expenses. The problem is serious.” Critical issues also admitted by Angiani herself but in less serious tones: “Yes, there are some alarm bells – stated the councilor – but not too much. The negative income statement gives us an indication that we need to improve some things: either we increase revenue or decrease expenses. The administration spent more than it collected during the year.”
