PESCARA. Pescara at the center of the national political debate for three days; in the last few hours “Pescara” has been among the most clicked words on the Internet; a river of people around the Nave di Cascella almost as if Pescara had won the football championship again; sold out in the hotels and B&Bs of Pescara and Montesilvano. If the prime minister Giorgia Melonifrom the Fratelli d’Italia village on the free beach in the center of the city, said that “it’s time to up the ante” by announcing his candidacy in the European elections on 8 and 9 June, even the Tourism Councilor, Major Events and trade Alfredo Cremonesealso from FdI, tries to raise the bar: «An event hall in Pescara», he says, riding the wave of enthusiasm, «it is an idea that I have already launched within my party so that it can be included in the electoral program and which I want to share with the rest of the coalition and with the outgoing mayor Carlo Masci».
While the dismantling of the 5 2,750 square meter tensile structures begins – which ended up in the center of two exposed due to the occupation of the beach and the denied sea view – Cremonese launches the idea to pursue the tourism of events and shows: the proposal of a such a structure is nothing new but, after three days in the spotlight, it is back in the news and could become one of the themes of the electoral campaign.
According to the authorizations of the Municipality and the Customs and Monopolies Agency, there is time until May 5th to remove the “Giorgia” pavilions, so the prime minister wants to be voted for in the European elections. And with the warehouses still standing, the councilor nominates Pescara as the Abruzzo center of events: «Pescara has hosted many events in recent years», he explains, «it has been the stage for countless successful initiatives promoted by the Municipality to attract tourists and to relaunch the city’s image at a national level and beyond. For the next few years we want to continue working on a path already traced, which has allowed us to achieve an enviable +48% of tourist presences between 2019 and 2023, and we also want to focus on new and ambitious projects. One of these is the creation of an event hall.” And the councilor passes the ball to the friendly governor Marcus Marsilio: «This is a project that the Municipality could implement in agreement with the Region and with the contribution of private individuals, i.e. a consortium of private individuals, on an area to be identified». Certainly, Pescara is a city on which the centre-right government is focusing: on 24 and 25 October the city will host the G7 with the Development Ministerial Meeting.
Three hypotheses were taken into consideration for the event hall: Nave di Cascella beach, modeled on the FdI village; the Piazza della Madonnina area; the resulting area. «An intervention of this kind can also be achieved by thinking of a mobile structure, not necessarily a fixed system», thinks the councilor, «certainly, both in one case and the other, an Event Hall would make Pescara even more attractive for everyone those entities that organize shows and, consequently, for an increasingly numerous audience, with all that this would entail for the city’s economy. I believe that an initiative of this magnitude deserves the utmost attention.”
After the FdI party with Prime Minister Meloni announcing the takeover with the sea of Pescara behind her, Mayor Masci is beaming: «All the newspapers and TV channels have spoken about our city in enthusiastic terms. The tag Pescara was, for the first time, at the top of the tweet rankings in Italy, a real trend topic. Full hotels and restaurants from Silvi to Fossacesia, with our streets joyfully invaded by over 4 thousand people”, this is the conclusion of the mayor of Forza Italia. «That fantastic image of the stage in the heart of the city, a stone’s throw from the water», says the mayor, «has gone around the world, a great vehicle for promoting tourism in our territory. We leave the rancorous controversies to others, as we always do things for the good of Pescara.”
Also Roberto Carrot, citizen coordinator of FdI in pectore – he has just suspended himself because he will be a candidate for the municipal elections – rejoices: «Honoured to have hosted so many friends in our splendid municipality». “A resounding success,” he says Stefano Cardelliprovincial coordinator.
And the city also receives compliments from neighboring Molise: «A great success», say the Molise parliamentarians of FdI, the senator Costanzo Della Porta and the deputy Elisabetta Lancellotta.
