Everything is ready for the 2024 Forest Fire Campaign of the Alta Murgia Park
In view of the upcoming summer season, the Alta Murgia National Park reiterates its commitment to preventing and fighting fires with the presentation of the 2024 Forest Fire Fighting Campaign at the Authority’s headquarters. A concrete action plan and the result of everyone’s collaboration the actors involved to protect the natural heritage of the Park territory. The activities will benefit from a further contribution of 40,000 euros granted to the Park by the Puglia Region – Sustainable Management and Protection of Forestry and Natural Resources Section – to strengthen the AIB service in the 2024 Campaign.

The activities were illustrated with the participation of the Civil Protection of the Puglia Region, ARIF, the Carabinieri Park Department, the Fire Brigade and the Italian Army: a common front to strengthen prevention measures and combat fire incidents more promptly.
Capillary monitoring is among the actions that will characterize the campaign, confirming again this year – through a public notice – the agreement with voluntary associations and agro-livestock companies, which will guarantee surveillance of the territory and water supply activities, in support of the institutional forces in the field. In parallel, ARIF is ensuring the safety of the wooded areas of the regional state property.

«Due to the morphology that characterizes it, the Alta Murgia Park is an area particularly exposed to the risk of fires – declares the President Francesco Tarantini – Its protection requires synergistic work with the collaboration of all the subjects involved, improving the contrast strategies year after year. Prevention is key: for this reason, we invite all citizens to behave responsibly by avoiding actions that could cause fires, such as lighting fires or throwing cigarette butts into the woods.”
Information and awareness. The AIB 2024 Campaign draws citizens’ attention to the fundamental role that everyone can play in preventing fires. If you spot a fire, it is important to promptly contact the emergency numbers 115 or 112, providing precise information on its location.
