CLEARANCE. After more than forty years, the management of the historic Mandron refuge – City of Trento is changing: the handover will officially take place from tomorrow, Wednesday 1 May, and Denis Redolfi, class alpine ski instructor, will take over the business long managed by the Gallazzini family. 1979 and helicopter rescue technician originally from Mezzana in Val di Sole.

The structure was made in 1878 and rises in the upper part of the Val Genovarecognized by all as the most beautiful of Adamello Brenta Natural Parkand refuge came inaugurated by Sat in 1959: run since the early 1980s by Carlo Gallazzini and by his wife Flavia, and in recent years by their son Davide, is preparing to experience, from mid-June when the opening is scheduled, a new beginning.

“As a mountain lover I have always had the desire to manage a refuge and I can say that this structure fully corresponds to meso when the opportunity presented itself I took the step – explains the new manager Denis Redolfi – and I have the awareness of collecting an important legacy, also towards the previous managers who in recent weeks have helped me understand the characteristics, but also the difficulties, of the place. That’s why I feel one on my shoulders great responsibility and, in this sense, I have one very clear vision: I would like a refuge that was truly such, and that does not become never a hotel. In fact, we are ready to offer a hot dish, for everyone, at any time.”

The intention, specifies Ridolfi, is that of make the refuge a place of shelter and aggregationand which is both warm and youthful: “I want to create a team of young guys and mountain enthusiastswho can rediscover it by living and working in a fascinating place like this.”

Another fundamental aspect on which the new manager is focusing a lot is the desire to enhance the wonderful location as much as possible“unique both from a historical and landscape point of view”.

“It will also be fundamental exploit new forms of communication to let people know, in advance, what the refuge offers – specifies Redolfi – as well as making the place as accessible as possible for ski mountaineering tripsperhaps offering tours starting directly from the refuge”.

Also wishing the new manager a good start and a good job Sat-Tridentin Mountaineering Societyi, with the Carè Alto section which however also wanted to cast a thought on the “historic” previous management.

“Unfortunately, one of them is closing these days great history of hospitalitysacrifices, great satisfaction and love for the mountains: the Gallazzini family ends the management of the refuge “City of Trento” at Mandrone and we will miss them greatly – we read in a post published on social media –. We will miss the professionalism, kindness, advice, laughter, reproaches, homemade cakes and that warmth that they always brought to anyone who crossed the threshold of that refuge located on the outskirts ofAdamello. An example for many and we truly thank them for always supporting us during ours activity and excursions, for pampering us and making us feel at home, for never making us lack for anything, especially when we invaded the shelter with the kids from campus or on the many occasions of celebration and even remembrance. Thank you very much for inventing a beautiful story in the midst of a fantastic setting.”
