«Best wishes to those who make it possible for May 1st to be a celebration for many: I am thinking of catering, for example, and of those involved in the entertainment industry, not least the workers and technicians who work at the traditional Roman concert. A wish to all workers, men and women, so that we no longer hear about deaths at work, nor about discrimination, mobbing, or the wage gap between the sexes. So that all contracts “in arrears” are renewed and so that the bad practice (alas often legal) of precarious work and the scourge of illegal work cease to exist. Happy May 1st to all those who are desperately looking for a job and who are often invisible. Best wishes also to those who, faced with the humiliation of a starvation wage and inhuman working conditions, despite living in need, have the courage to say: “No”. Work is, first and foremost, dignity. Let us never forget it. The holiday of April 25th has just passed, with its inevitable tail of controversies which often, despite the good will of many people with healthy values, mostly serve to establish a position of football support or, judging by many of the arguments proposed by the mainstream, of mere and little conscious party affiliation. Controversies that I don’t want to get into. However, allow me to relaunch the “concept” of liberation: if the historically determined liberation, which we love and respect, is consigned to the past, the task of building the “liberation of the future” in which work, its dignity, stability, fair pay and security are crucial elements.
