Umbria against architectural barriers allocated €1.178 million

The Umbria Regional Council has announced a new tranche of funding for the elimination of architectural barriers in private buildings, allocating over 1 million and 178 thousand euros for the 2023/2024 year. This I commit financial support will support a total of 563 interventions, with a distribution of 441 interventions in the province of Perugia and 122 in the province of Terni, focusing largely on the installation of stairlifts, which represents approximately 64% of the requests.

The financing was determined by the Department of Housing Policies of Umbria, based on the applications sent by the Municipalities to the Region until 1 March 2024. These applications reflect the growing need to adapt buildings to make them accessible to people with permanent impairments or functional limitations, as well as to their family members or to the condominiums where the beneficiaries reside, as required by law 13/1989.

The region, after having noted the availability of approximately 249,350 euros saved from the two previous years, has estimated a residual requirement of approximately 929,300 euros, which will be communicated to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for the allocation of the necessary resources. Accompanying the request for funds, the region will also send a report of the results achieved in the last two years.

In recent years, the region has shown a constant commitment to supporting these important interventions. In the 2021-2022 year, 276 applications were satisfied, with an investment of over 1 million euros, mainly for the installation of lifts, hoists and lifting platforms. For the 2022-2023 year, the applications amounted to 310, with the Region distributing over 1 million and 148 thousand euros to the requesting Municipalities.

The continued funding of these projects not only improves the quality of life of citizens with specific needs, but also reflects a commitment by the Umbria region to making housing more accessible and livable for everyone. With these actions, the region aims to ensure that no citizen faces significant obstacles within their home, promoting a more inclusive and accessible environment.
