ABRUZZO. “We are celebrating an anniversary that once again sees us with the black jersey of accidents at work, with a heavy increase in the number of victims in Teramo and in the province of Chieti, the provinces most affected by the phenomenon. In the first three months of 2024 there were 1,900 injuries and 4 victims. Another black mark concerns passive mobility in healthcare, with more and more people, now 9.2% (over two points above the national average), who give up treatment because they do not have the economic possibility to do so, nor the adequate time due to of long waiting lists for even urgent services, as confirmed by the data from the Gimbe foundation which places Abruzzo in the fourth place in Italy for giving up treatment. Furthermore, there is a lack of a regional industrial policy that takes an effective initiative in the sector, starting from the automotive sector, despite the current crisis and serious risks, such as the layoffs at Denso, the situation of Dayco, Baomarc and Pilkinton or Stellantis’ choices. We need an intervention strategy on the part of the Region which we do not see to date and this despite the request to establish a table open to the territories and the social partners which, as the opposition and together with the unions, we have repeatedly requested during the last five years of Marsilio ”.

Thus the PD group leader in the regional council Silvio Paolucci.

“In the absence of this, the inertia of the centre-right continues, not only in terms of initiatives, but also in terms of intentions: you cannot proceed spot-on when you have five years of government behind you – urges the PD exponent – . Hot topics need attention and strategies in order to be addressed and, in the best case scenario, resolved. Instead we are faced with a new policy of advertisements, while Abruzzo is a red zone for accidents at work and thousands of workers either lose their jobs, or risk being left without them soon; while all the promises made a few hours after the March vote, to capture the consensus of another primary sector, agriculture, bowed by the damage and the lack of compensation, return to being dreams in the drawer of a community that needs of interventions. The people of Abruzzo ask politics to be taken into account, because they have valuable rights that remain unapplied on May 1st and all other days.”
